“An atmosphere in which to work” – that was the assignment for the new executive offices of Dr. Hasso Kaempfe at Mast-Jägermeister AG, Wolfenbüttel. Deutsche Werkstätten Hellerau set about creating just such a working atmosphere for him. Functional, bright and friendly. Storage areas were yielded by a unit extending along the window fronts, its black matte lacquer finish at the same time providing visual accents. The desk is configured as a large wooden angle. It rests upon a sideboard which, among other things, accommodates writing materials, computer and printer. The large desk is of an ingenious design – a hollow body of MDF boards, finished precisely to mitre so that no joints are visible anywhere. The Deutsche Werkstätten Hellerau specialists also showed meticulous craftsmanship when applying the walnut veneer, specially selected to ideally match the colour of the existing wall panelling. Two drawers, left and right of an open shelf, were integrated into the hollow body. The drawers were made from solid maple and given a front walnut veneer. The drawer guides are concealed. Even a handle would have been too dominant; it would have detracted from the desk’s simple linear form. To work around this, Deutsche Werkstätten Hellerau finished this piece of furniture with a spring-lock catch instead. The drawers pop open with a light push on the front.
