To commemorate the bicentennial of the renowned Gewandhaus concerts, Kurt Masur and “his” orchestra of many years received a new concert hall: Gewandhaus Leipzig, built to the design specifications of Leipzig architect Professor Rudolf Skoda. Deutsche Werkstätten Hellerau’s contribution at the time included all the wall panellings in the large and small concert halls.

1997

Gewandhaus Leipzig, small concert hall: with great care and effort, the Deutsche Werkstätten Hellerau specialists expanded the panelling. More than anything else, the most complicated aspect was finding the similar stock, varnishes and stains to perfectly match the colour of the original, which had since yellowed with age. But in the end, the result speaks for itself: there is no discernible difference between the old segments installed at the beginning of the 1980’s and the recent additions.
