AMD, Dresden

Reception area

Completion 1997

The Dresden-Wilschdorf industrial estate, not far from the airport, is home to the “Fab 30” of the American Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) company and its affiliated research centre. The facility has certainly had a big hand in the company’s market success; it was even expanded soon after being built. The work in the construction phase fell to Deutsche Werkstätten Hellerau. The AMD Fab 30 reception desk is shaped like a horseshoe closed to the rear – and although produced by Deutsche Werkstätten Hellerau, the construction based on the design by Alfonso Mercurio Architecti, Rome, did not use a single piece of wood. Staff enters the reception area through a cylinder at the centre of the counter, which concurrently provides storage space. Special feature: a curved sliding door at the front.
