Harriet Groß Im Kontrapunkt
With the exhibition project "Im Kontrapunkt" we are daring something new: the Berlin artist Harriet Groß is creating her art in the gallery in front of visitors and employees. At the beginning there are only bare exhibition walls and the only thing that is clear is that parts of the two work groups 'Fugen' (gaps/joints) and 'Saum' (seams) will be integrated. Neither Harriet Groß nor we know what the result at the end of the creation process will be.
The artist works in public. Even before the exhibition opens, viewers are invited to observe the growth and changes. At the Vernissage, the artwork is presented, possibly still in the making. We can't wait to see it. Harriet Groß works with spaces. With her material (ink, tape, string, poles, tubes, blinds and the knife), she draws structures and tracks of our constructs of memory, idea or social spaces into existing spaces in a strongly reduced colour palette. She follows the rhythm of thoughts and directs our gaze to transitions and gaps. In it, she repeatedly locates individual definite elements that refer to the here and now. The active construction of the spatial image by the viewer is an important aspect of her work.
