Katja Pfeiffer: under construction
Architectural transitional phenomena between construction and destruction, temporary and provisional buildings and illusionary architecture are the subject of Katja Pfeiffer's art. Over the years, she has been compiling the material for her work in an extensive archive. For the implementation, she takes up individual aspects in order to combine sources from completely different origins. The exhibition 'under construction' presents pieces from three groups of works that relate to different stages of construction processes. The installation 'Backdrop' is based on footage from film productions. A slight shift of the viewer's perspective from behind the camera's point of view causes the illusion to falter when filming on set. The series of works 'Abmaz Abmar' shows the backs of fairground rides and locks the viewer out of the pleasure. Finally, the works in the 'Kingfisher' series show the remains of ocean giants after their last voyage. Material for this was provided by documentation about the Chittagong ship-breaking yards.
