Marc von der Hocht, Vitruv

"Faced with the new media of progressive digitalisation and the permanent transformation of our everyday lives, it seems obvious to regard painting as an old-fashioned, somewhat outdated medium. Since Marcel Duchamp, ꞌthe end of paintingꞌ has been repeatedly declared - in vain. Painting draws its ongoing actuality from its potential to create a world out of nothing or, at least, with very few means. The means, however, are constantly changing and the topics with which the artists concern themselves, too. The work of Marc von der Hocht makes this clear at first glance by combining an industrial impression with a methodology borrowed from installation or conceptual art. The high-gloss lacquer used by the artist and the timber-framework wooden elements into which some pictures have been set represent an alternative concept to the traditional panel painting."
