Metall Konkret – Remix

‘Metall - Konkret - Remix’ – sculptures and objects; exhibition dates: 31st May 2012 until August 3rd 2012; venue: Werkstätten Gallery at the Deutsche Werkstätten, Company Head Office (new building), Moritzburger Weg 68, 01109 Dresden
Latest exhibition at the Deutsche Werkstätten will feature pieces by 27 artists.
The Werkstätten Gallery at the Deutsche Werkstätten breaks new ground with ‘Metall - Konkret - Remix’. Whilst these exhibitions are usually solo affairs, the metal sculptures of 27 – mostly German – artists are now to be displayed. The exhibition comprises some 45 works that can be broadly characterised as ‘concrete’ on account of their reduced design language. What is very ‘concrete’ or solid about these pieces, though, is the material itself that has been fashioned in quite distinct ways, from casting through to traditional forging. This comprehensive exhibition will be extremely stimulating since it demonstrates a number of very different artistic positions leading to very individual interpretations of working with metal.
The exhibits show tremendous variety; for example, Leo Kornbrust’s small, totally closed cast iron sculpture (13.5cmx15.5cmx26cm) contrasts strongly with the several-metres-long rhythmic steel sculptures by Robert Schad. Huge aluminium works by Helmut Karow and full-colour, trompe l’oeil wall pieces from Wolfram Ullrich and Sigurd Rompza add to the diversity.
Some well-known artists, such as Erich Hauser, Ewerdt Hilgemann, Ben Hofer and Jan Meyer-Rogge, feature among those exhibiting and will be joined by a number of new names.
The exhibition is organised in collaboration with the Galerie St Johann, Saarbrücken, and the Museum für Konkrete Kunst, Ingolstadt plus the participating artists and their respective galleries.
