Book presentation - 5 December 2018 at 7 pm

Deutsche Werkstätten fits out the largest and most stunning luxury yachts in the world today – picking up again on a tradition that seemed almost forgotten for many years. In the first decades of the twentieth century, the company designed and produced some of the most cutting-edge interiors for German passenger ships, including extravagant ocean liners and large steamboats for inland navigation.

After two years of research, a visually stunning publication is now being issued in which Deutsche Werkstätten's different phases of historical ship outfitting are presented: It began with the furnishing of warships for the Imperial Navy at the beginning of the 20th century. Shortly afterwards, the company entered the luxury business. Particularly in the 1920s and 1930s, Deutsche Werkstätten fitted out liners and cruise liners on a large scale. After the Second World War, the company was also involved in refitting several ships for the Soviet Union.

EINE KLASSE FÜR SICH / A CLASS OF THEIR OWN was produced together with the publishers Sandstein Verlag. The project also received support from the Hauptstaatsarchiv Dresden (State Archives), the Deutsche Fotothek (Photo Library) and the Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Dresden (State Art Collections).

On 5 December 2018, the book will be ceremoniously presented to the public. We cordially invite you to join us on this evening on a journey back in time to the dazzling era of the great ocean liners.
